Today I want to show you Binnenskamers (in English: Within Four Walls) is a graphic novel by Dutch illustrator Tim Enthoven. He made it while studying at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, where he graduated with honors. The story is autobiographical and lets the viewer take a peek into his self-contained life.
This structure is brutally interrupted when he meets a co-student of his, when he tries to avoid going to school as much as possible, and is invited for a house party, where chaos starts.
I love how the images and text are so closely connected. There isn't a lot of dialog or text, but it's clear in the visuals that Tim likes a structured, private life. He presents this so clearly through his illustrations, that you notice the change in atmosphere when he enters the party. The mood at the party is much more lively and social, quite the opposite of what Tim just presents to us. This is also noticeable in the visuals, where structure sometimes is harder to find.
