In this categorie I will give you insight on my favourite books and graphic novels, and explain you how and why they inspire me to draw more. Beautiful books are definitely a huge motivator to practice more! Let's start with the graphic novel Jane, the fox & me.
The books contains two levels of narrative, that are told at the same time: one is the sad story of Hélène, a pre-teen girl who is bullied by her former friends and has to go on summer camp without any friends. She escapes her thoughts by reading Jane Eyre.
The world of Hélène is gray, made with pencil smeers and a gloomy atmosphere, whereas Jane's world is painted and coloured. This adds a lot to the narrative, as it's very clear to see which world Hélène likes to be in. The dark, sober age of the Victorian times is brightly coloured by her imagination.
It's save to say this book is an instantly favourite of mine, and I will without a doubt open it frequently to gaze at Arsenaults beautiful pencilwork.
